Summary:
For my research project entitled "Moodle in the Music Classroom," I wanted to find out what educational benefits there were when using Moodle in the music classroom. I had to demonstrate the best practices of research when designing and implementing my project. This included creating a research binder with all information regarding my research about the topic and research methods, as well as a reflection for each article.
In order to implement this project, I had to collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the East Stroudsburg Area School District. After each teacher taught a lesson using Moodle in their own classrooms, we had a round table discussion about how Moodle did or did not effectively assist in the learning process. I then transcribed and coded this data before evaluating the responses by each participant. Conclusions were drawn based on the primary and secondary research questions.
This project helped provide a basis for future research to come on a topic that has little to no data. Future researchers will be able to use this study as a platform for questioning purposes, as well as design their studies in order to better reflect the true learning process in the music classroom.
Reflection:
I learned a great deal by being immersed into the process of research. It is a detail-oriented and time-consuming process that can help gain vast amounts of knowledge when implemented correctly. In doing this project, I learned how to: a.) find existing research that enhanced my own research, b.) how to organize that research online, c.) how to plan and implement a research project, and d.) how to collaborate with subjects in order to reach a common goal.
